Highlights

Holland, or the Netherlands as it is officially known, is a very bicycle-friendly country. The way that cycling is included in the traffic systems, the general small scale of everything and the flat terrain all contribute greatly in providing the perfect conditions for a stress-free tour ! On this tour you will pedal your way through different types of landscapes, each with its own cultural and historical characteristics. From April to the first week of May, this tour will leave from Haarlem (instead of Abcoude) in order to admire and ride through the innumerable tulips fields between Haarlem and Leiden!

The bikes: Excellent. We love the automatic lights.Shifting is easy, and the gearing is entirely appropriate for a flat country like the Netherlands. The routes are really fun. Quite beautiful. Hotels are excellent. Each is unique and we are ... enjoying their funky styles. Breakfasts have been very good. This is our fifth DF tour, and quite possibly our favorite so far. See you again next Year.

So far the weather has been wonderful and the bicycling has been great. We are in Zierikzee, each city has been beautiful. Tomorrow the weather will be rainy and windy, but that will be the only rainy day for our ride which seems like good luck ... for the Netherlands. Our bicycles are very good and Peter was a joy to work with. The hotels in Bruges, Middelburg and Zierikzee have all be very nice.

We recommend that you visit the city before your cycle tour, taking public transport (train and tram).

Amsterdam - Abcoude - Leiden

You will be transferred at 9am with your luggage to Abcoude where you will meet us to handout equipment and to give a thorough explanation of the tour. First day the bike tour goes from Abcoude to the historic town of Leiden, one of the most beautiful towns in Holland. This day the tour goes through typical Dutch lowlands, with quiet bike lanes, lovely canals and windmills on the route.

Leiden - The Hague - Delft

On the third day the tour goes from Leiden to Delft (famous for its blue pottery). Along the coastal bike path through lovely sand dunes towards the governmental town of The Hague. In The Hague there are a lot of interesting museums and national and international highlights to visit. From The Hague finally on to the beautiful town of Delft to stay for the night.

Distance : 41 Km (25 mi).

Elevation : 98m

NOTE : We recommend you to start early (9am on the bike) if you want to visit some major sites on the way. According to the site you want to visit, you can arrive in THE HAGUE for Lunch and take time to visit the sites you find on your way . Then continue to Delft. You may arrive too late for Delft museums. You will have some time to do that tomorrow morning.

Delft - Rotterdam - Brielle

Today the tour heads towards the harbor of Rotterdam along quaint villages and a lovely canal. Pass the harbor of Rotterdam with a ferry crossing and from there it's a small ride to the picturesque village of Brielle to spend the night.

The long option takes you on a nice ride by the river of Nieuwe Waterweg and you will pass the Maeslandkering (www.keringhuis.nl) nearby.

Distance : 26 Km (16 mi) or 43km (26 mi).

Elevation : 28m or 61m

NOTE : We recommend you either have a ride in the afternoon and enjoy Delft in the morning or do your ride in the morning to have lunch in Brielle.

Brielle - Zierikzee

The trip enters the Zeeland province, well known for its highly innovative infrastructural dams and dikes to protect this area against the sea.
